11月17日上午，英国利物浦副市长温迪·西蒙会见了上海外办刘光勇副主任，双方就两友好城市间的发展进行了讨论。出席该会议有上海外事办欧非处处长李春平、副处长励仿夏，利物浦文化局主任克莱尔·麦考庚、利物浦文化局创意发展处处长罗宾·凯布和奈特华总经理潘琼雅。
On the morning of November 17, Simon Wendy, Vice Mayor of Liverpool, UK, met with Deputy Director Liu Guangyong of Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office. Both sides discussed the development between the two friendly cities. Also attending the meeting were Li Chunping, Director General of the Shanghai Office of European Affairs and Foreign Affairs, Li FangXia of the Shanghai Muncipal People’s Government Foreign Affairs Office / European and African Affairs Division, Claire McColgan, Director of Culture, Robin Kemp, Head of Creative Development and Pamela Pan, General Manager of ConnectChina.
西蒙副市长表示，利物浦有着丰富的文化、艺术和创意资源，曾在2008年被评为欧洲文化之都，明年市内将举行一系列庆典活动，其中也包括“中国梦之季”项目。利物浦市政府长期以来一直致力于推动文化产业的发展，希望今后能与上海共享城市发展经验，造福两市市民。
Ms Simon said that Liverpool has rich cultural, artistic and creative resources. It was named the European Capital of Culture in 2008 and will hold a series of ceremonies next year, including the "China Dream Season" project. The Liverpool City Government has long been committed to promoting the development of the cultural industry and hopes to share its urban development experience with Shanghai in the future for the benefit of the citizens of both nations.
刘光勇副主任表示，上海与利物浦的友城关系始于1999年，后年两地将迎来结好20周年。两地的友好交流需要借助更多的务实项目。上海的目标是到2040年，建成“卓越的全球城市，国际经济、金融、贸易、航运、科技创新中心和文化大都市”，以及令人向往的创新之城、人文之城、生态之城。希望在这一过程中可以与利物浦加强交流与联系，借用友城平台整合在文化、创意、教育等多领域的资源。
Liu Guangyong said that the friendship between Shanghai and Liverpool began in 1999 and that the two places will usher in the 20th anniversary of the establishment of this friendship in the coming year. The friendly exchanges between the two places are in need of more pragmatic projects. Shanghai aims to build "an outstanding global city, international economic, financial, trade, shipping, science and technology innovation center and cultural metropolis by 2040" as well as a desirable city of innovation, humanity and an eco-city; with hope that this process can enhance exchanges and contacts with Liverpool, and use friends of the platform to integrate resources in culture, creativity, education and other fields.
