Development in HAI receives world attention; experts from China and UK discuss HAI prevention and control.
At the opening ceremony, vice-president Lei Guanghua of Xiangya Hospital pointed out that HAI prevention and control has become a global issue, and research and practice in this field are receiving more and more attention. The Infection Control Center of Xiangya Hospital, as HAI training base designated by the National Health and Family Planning Commission of China (NHFPC), has trained groups of HAI professionals for our country. Through this seminar, we expect to deepen our international exchanges and cooperation in HAI, learn the latest progresses and international standards from UK colleagues and promote the development of HAI in China.

Mr. Andrew Ould, deputy consul general of British Consulate General Guangzhou said, with the extensive use of antibiotics worldwide, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become a global threat. Bacterial does not respect national borders, so it is more than necessary to strength our bilateral exchanges and cooperation and to promote HAI prevention and control globally. He hoped that learning of HAI knowledge could be encouraged by changing HAI-related behaviors and attitudes and eventually we could see improvements on HAI prevention.

During the seminar, four experts from China and UK spoke on HAI from different aspects. Ms. Yvonne Carter, Head of IPC at the Royal Free Hospital, introduced practical hospital management skills and basic training requirements on hygiene standards for healthcare infection prevention as well as how the Royal Free Hospital has built practical infection prevention and preventative measures. Deputy director Huang Xun of the Infection Control Center of Xiangya Hospital Central South University introduced the multi-disciplinary collaboration model for MDRO management at Xiangya Hospital. Dr. Guy Braverman from GAMA illustrated that the key for handling AMR is to prevent infection rather than treat it. Prof. Ren Nan from the Infection Control Center of Xiangya Hospital emphasized the infection prevention and control in primary health care institutions and the actual implementation of their work.

Xiangya nursing model was highly praised by UK experts; discussion was held to explore future collaboration directions.

On the afternoon, a discussion meeting was held to further explore possible collaborations in nursing between Xiangya and UK. Participants include Ms. Li Yinglan, director of Nursing, Ms. Zhou Qiuhong, deputy director of the Outpatient Department, Ms. Yu Lingli, chief head nurse for Infection Control, Ms. Zhang Qijian, head nurse of the Wound and Stoma Center of Xiangya Hospital and the UK delegation.
